This will be our last issue focused on tips on choosing various vendors: Things to look for in a Bridal Shop.

  • Location - The shop you choose ideally should be close to your home. Keep in mind you will have to travel back to the shop for multiple fittings to ensure a proper fit.
  • Atmosphere - Is the staff happy? If they are happy and enjoy what they do. You will enjoy the experience of gown shopping.
  • Time - Allow plenty of time for you to browse and try on as many dresses as it takes to find “Your Dress”
  • Hidden Costs - Ask about alteration charges. Some Bridal Shops charge additional fees for alterations outside of the gown’s purchase price.
  • Foundation - In many cases the foundation (undergarments) worn can dramatically improve a gown’s appearance

We highly recommend Calvary Bridal House in Millburn, NJ. They are knowledgeable, attentive and provide superior customer service.

The next issues will provide tips on choosing various vendors. Questions to ask transportation providers.

  • Do you subcontract your business to other companies? This is one of reasons the wedding transportation industry had such a bad reputation. You do the research and contract with one vendor only to be subcontracted to another not of the same quality as the original.
  • Ask to see the actual vehicle? Sit in it. Are you comfortable? Remember your dress will take up at least two spaces, so get in the vehicle and then try to get out! The driver will be there to assist you but take note of how difficult it is to maneuver in your regular dress and plan accordingly.
  • What kind or service do you offer? — White Glove? Family style?
  • Find out how long have they been doing weddings? Do they just do weddings? If not, what else? This is the same question posed to the caterers. It also applies to all wedding vendors. if they are familiar with weddings, they know to take extra care with the guests because this is their most special day.
  • Will your deposit be returned in the event of a cancellation?
